

Alpaca Bloodstock Breeders Association (ABBA)
is a group of like minded professional alpaca breeders who seek to promote the growth of the alpaca industry for luxury fibre, pets and elite pedigree breeding stock.
ABBA Aims and Objectives
- To collectively promote and market the growing alpaca industry.
- To breed healthy and happy alpacas of the highest quality.
- To provide a set of minimum standards for the health and welfare of alpacas, disease control and sales support.
- Participating breeders offer a professional service both pre and post sales.
Minimum Standards Adhered to by Members:
On Farm
- Good bio-security with a written farm statement outlining measures taken to manage risks to acceptable standards for the herd and geographical location.
- Accurate records of all alpacas, their movements on and off holding, their breedings and disease investigations, control and solutions.
- Adequate isolation for alpacas involved in infectious disease outbreaks.
- Post mortem of alpacas that die.
- Feed and maintain all alpacas so that health and body score is optimum.
Sales Support
- Adhere to BAS Code of Conduct for Sales.
- Provide a comprehensive verbal explanation of all previous husbandry and breeding to the buyer and a written report including breeding and pregnancy certificates if appropriate.
- Provide basic training and support to the purchaser to ensure acceptable levels of husbandry to maintain the health and welfare of the sold alpaca(s).
- Ensure that sold alpacas arrive on the purchaser’s holding in optimum condition, recently wormed and up to date with vaccinations and any necessary supplements.
- Ensure the immediate transfer of ownership of sold stock to the BAS Registry after full payments have been received.
- Participants agree to respond to requests from customers for help, guidance and support via telephone calls, letters or e-mails, as and when they arise.
